We offer food, groceries, supplies and live music with small-town hospitality.

Store & Kitchen

You’ll find a delicious homestyle menu from our kitchen with burgers, sandwiches, soups from scratch, and more, along with sweet and savory baked goods made right here.

We serve locally-roasted espresso and housemade beverages along with beer, wine, and kombucha on tap and by the glass.

The grocery is well-stocked with gourmet cheese and charcuterie, beer and wine, snacks, pantry staples, camping essentials, and many organic and local products and gifts.

Your Visit

Explore our newly renovated store and kick back outside on two beautiful decks under the towering redwood trees.

We’re a great place for families and a favorite stop for motorcyclists and cyclists. We’re also the closest convenience when you’re hiking, swimming, and camping up the road at San Mateo Memorial Park.

The town of Loma Mar is nestled along Pescadero Creek between Pescadero and La Honda in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Including the post office, we are the “town” - the population is about 167.

Loma Mar is home to the beloved San Mateo Memorial Park Campground, YMCA's Camp Loma Mar, Redwood Glen Camp and Conference Center, and the volunteer-run Loma Mar Fire Station.

What’s With The Quails?

LMS_Quail_green.png

Folks who live in magical Loma Mar are known as “Loma Martians” so we choose the similarly antenna-bearing, highly sociable California Quail as our mascot - you may have noticed them on our signs, logo, and even our email address.

Quails live in groups called “coveys” and often right at the edge of urban environments, just like us, over the hill from Silicon Valley. We serve coffee in our Loma Martian mugs to welcome you to our rural covey.

When you see “Follow The Quail” signs, you’ll know you’re on your way to the Loma Mar Store!

A Little History

Established in 1930, the Loma Mar Store has gone through several transformations and stewards over the years.

Originally a lumber mill, then the Harrison Post Office, a general store was added to the west end of the building in the 1950s. In 2014, neighbors Jeff and Kate Haas purchased the store. After renovations, the store re-opened in August 2019 with an upgraded commercial kitchen, baking oven, espresso bar, outdoor decks, and more.

The renovations were truly a community effort from the local builder and his expert team of craftsmen, skilled neighbors, and support of the county. The building was redesigned by friend and San Francisco designer, Dan Lorimer, inspired by the work of architect Julia Morgan. The building features some of her techniques, such as the alternating colors of the ceiling boards, achieved by using goat milk wood stain from local Harley Farms.

Local materials and supplies were incorporated into the new structure as much as possible. The flooring of the old building was repurposed as the wainscoting for the new interior. The front, back, and west decks were built from old-growth redwood supplied by a neighbor. When a redwood tree was removed from the side of the old store, another neighbor milled the lumber and it was used as the new non-structural ceiling — the next time you visit, take a look up!
